The Ideal:PVC Tarps To Cover the Bales

Source:    Time:2012-01-17 09:00:31

Time-tested procedures dictate that once you decide to store your hay, it is ideal - as much as possible - to keep it away from any source of moisture. No matter what you do, you have to keep them off the ground. This is because the ground holds moisture and this causes molding and combustion. The best solution for this would be to stack your bales over PVC tarps or other moisture barriers. To add more protection, it is also wise to stack the hay on a pallet or wooden platform on top of the tarps; doing this will make sure that your stacks stay safe.

As an added precaution for freshly cut hay, always make sure that these are stacked with the cut sides up and with enough space in between each other. Doing this will allow moisture to evaporate properly and the air to circulate well.Besides the ground's moisture, you also need to make sure that your stacks are protected against changing weather. With PVC tarps to cover the bales, you can be sure that moisture from rain, fog, or morning mist is kept off. Even if the stacks are secured in a sheltered area, you can never be too careful as roof leaks and other factors can compromise the proper curing of your bales.
